Security hole lets hackers claim ownership of your Skype account using email address

Skype users need to pay attention to this story and take precautions. Russian hackers found out that anyone can hack a user’s Skype account by using the email address tied to that account. When a person knows the email address of a Skype user, they can use that email address to create a new Skype account.

This allows the hacker to get a password reset token which is sent to the Skype app itself. The token can be redeemed to eventually claim ownership of the account. Right now, if you want to avoid this flaw, you can change the email address on Skype.

Skype has temporarily disabled password reset and are investigating the situation. Hopefully it is sorted very soon.
